MakersLAB.TV S2E2 - High Volume Sublimation Printing by Large Format Printer and Roller Heat Press
The reason for the ink switch (From Water-based to Sublimation and Eco-Solvent Ink)
Riley received a lot of enquiries from his clients on how to replace or change old ink change in large format printers.
They wanted to know if it would be possible for them to change water-based to sublimation ink and eco-solvent ink without causing any damage to the printhead or even incurring too many costs when doing so.
Technician from AM shows us how to change ink
The First Step:
Place tissue on both sides of the printhead in order to prevent a spillage onto the data cables.
This will ensure that no damage is caused to the circuit.
Then go to the back of the printer to disconnect all the ink tanks.
This puts a stop to the flow of ink coming towards the head area so that you are able to drain the ink.
Now disconnect the pipe at the back now.
Then slowly drain the ink from the tanks through the pipe with a syringe to pull the ink out of the printer.
Next step:
Remove the filters from the pipe and the ink tank.
Start off by loosening the clamps that are holding down the pipes. This is done in order to push the pipes right through.
Then remove all of the pipes and fit in new tanks, new pipes, new dampeners and new filters.
There is no need to remove the printhead. Proceed to do a manual flush the head in order to introduce or insert new ink.
Fit in new tanks and then put together the ink and pipes and attach everything to the tanks.
Last step:
Install the dampeners. Then pull the ink through the pipes and then flush the head all the way through the dampeners.
All we have to do now is to flush the head, clean it and then do some test prints.
The Ink change is done.
