Print and Cut Pizza Box by Large Format Printer and CNC Laser Cutting Machine

Everyone loves pizza, and one creative customer inspired us with a unique idea to show employee appreciation: personalised boxes for single pizza slices. Each box includes a special message for the recipient, combining thoughtfulness with deliciousness. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of designing and crafting these custom pizza slice boxes using a Large Format Printer and a CNC Laser Cutting Machine.

Step 1: Mocking Up the Box Design

To begin, we created a sample to showcase the concept. Using a template, we designed a triangular box that would fit a pizza slice snugly. The design features:

Foldable Sections: The template includes foldable areas for the box’s structure, eliminating the need for dotted fold lines.
Lid and Base: The box consists of a base to hold the pizza and a lid to cover it.

Step 2: Adding Fun Personalisation

For the sample, we added a playful message: "A slice a day keeps the doctor away." The font was chosen to be lighthearted and visually appealing. The text was repeated at varying angles across the box to create a quirky pattern.
The design was enhanced with a background colour and a white text overlay with a black stroke for emphasis. This made the message stand out, ensuring the box looked as delightful as its contents.

Step 3: Preparing the Artwork

Once the design was finalized:
The artwork was saved as a JPEG for UV printing.

The box’s outline was vectorized as a DXF file for laser cutting.
Registration marks were aligned to ensure precise cutting by the laser.

Step 4: Printing and Cutting

Using a UV printer, the design was printed directly onto cardboard. After printing, the template was laser-cut to create the individual pieces for the box. Settings like power (45%) and speed (50 mm/s) were adjusted to achieve clean cuts.
Step 5: Assembling the Box

To assemble the box:

Fold along the scored lines created during laser cutting.

Use double-sided tape to secure the edges and form the structure.
Adjust the size of the lid and base as needed to ensure a snug fit for the pizza slice.

Step 6: Presenting the Final Product

The finished box perfectly held a slice of pizza, showcasing the concept beautifully. This thoughtful packaging idea makes for a memorable and practical way to express gratitude or celebrate an occasion.

Why It’s a Great Idea

Personalised pizza slice boxes combine the universal love of pizza with a heartfelt touch. They’re easy to customize, and the recipient feels appreciated. Whether for employee appreciation, a special event, or just for fun, this project is sure to delight you.
Try creating your own personalised pizza slice boxes and see how a simple idea can leave a lasting impression. Have fun, get creative, and share the love—one slice at a time!
