MakersLAB.TV S2E7 - Printing and Sewing Fully 100% Polyester Sublimation Fabric Pillowcases
Polyester materials and blends are the ideal, go-to substrates for transferring your designs with the highest quality. The dyes in the sublimation ink are able to bond with polyester molecules with so much ease, allowing you to transfer your designs with the highest quality.
Riley shows you how he created custom-made pillowcases by printing a design of his choice on polyester material using AM’s FastCOLOUR large format printer.
As soon as the printing was done, he waited for the polyester material to dry up a bit. He then pressed it onto a heat press machine.
Riley used brushed spandex which has such a nice soft feel to it. This material is a 4-way stretch knit made of 96% polyester/4% spandex. It has undergone a process where both sides of the fabric are brushed, creating that characteristic suede like feel on both sides, which you can see in the underside of the fabric in the flutter sleeves.
After printing and sublimation is done, he moved onto seamstress work.
He cut the material into a desired shape and sew it into pillowcases.
Another remarkable property of polyester its ability not to wrinkle.
Polyester has excellent shape characteristics.
Polyester yarns or fabrics can be used for a long time after being washed several times in use. Also it is inexpensive.
