MakersLAB.TV S2E5 - Frosted Glass Printing and COVID-19 Safety Signs for Universal Music Africa
On Season 2 Episode 5 Riley takes us through the printing and application process of signage stickers and frosted vinyl specially created for Universal Music Africa.
Frosted Glass Printing for Universal Music Africa
Printing phase:
Lanford Agencies used sandblasting vinyl to print the multiple logos used by Universal Music Africa. This was done using AM’s FastCOLOUR large format printer.
They went for solid colours due to the fact that the background is translucent.
Application of frosting on window:
Water and dishwashing liquid are mixed and turned into a solution.
The solution created is used to apply the vinyl onto the glass doors.
The dishwashing liquid solution is applied all over the door.
Then glass spray is used to clean up any dirt or residue left behind before or after application of the vinyl and it also ensures that the vinyl is applied on a very smooth surface.
Then the vinyl is applied onto the glass door.
After application the vinyl is left to dry for half an hour.
When the vinyl has dried-up they went onto trim the edges.
The vinyl is pressed down with a squeegee so that it sticks onto the door perfectly and then the sticker is peeled off leaving behind the frosted vinyl.
The main reason why they created a frosted effect is because they want light to penetrate through the glass doors.
They also applied frosted vinyl at the bottom half of the glass doors of each office in order to create some privacy for whoever is inside the office.
Frosted vinyl was also applied all over their store room to help minimise the amount of sunlight that enters the store room, so that the products/equipment kept in there do not get damaged by the sun’s rays.
COVID-19 Safety Signs for Universal Music Africa
Printing phase:
Riley used an easily removable vinyl so that the stickers can be removed at anytime without being torn and tattered. Water will not be added to this application. This process can be referred to as dry application.
For the floor greyback vinyl will be used cause it has a lot of adhesive and is longer lasting.
